A Life Without Consequences

So many people chase what’s missing in their lives in hopes of finding “it” when “it” has been there the whole time. Instead of running towards what completes them they run away from it.

While running away or in any directions is a choice, you don’t get a choice when it comes to the consequences that come directly or even indirectly from your actions. Whether you intend, mean, or want to effect others with how you live your life you still do regardless.

Regret, a lot like time catches up to us all at some point. What you do with the time you have, and how many or few regrets you have are all products of the choices you make.

“You are free to choose, but you are not free to alter the consequences of your decisions.”

To live a life without consequences is to live a life full of delusions, and a life spent lying to yourself. The key to knowing who you are is to first know what you do and how that impacts others. The inability to acknowledge or recognize the consequences of how you live and what you do with your life is really more of a choice than anything else. Your choice to ignore the products of your own decisions is a selfish one to say the least.

There are so many excuses people make when it comes to denying responsibility for where they’re at in life; excuses for why consequences of their choices and actions are not of their own fault or doing. Life is hard, and disappointments come with the territory. Things not going your way has never been an excuse to give up, quit trying, and/or hurt others with poor decisions.

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth, but you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that…” ~Rocky Balboa

As a label, “cowardice” indicates a failure of character in the face of a challenge. In life, you’re not asked to be a super-hero, you’re not asked to overcome every single obstacle in a single bound like Super-Man does buildings. It’s much more simpler than all of that, in life you are simple expected to show up. Show up when its easy, show up when its hard, show up when you get it right, and show up when you get it wrong. Own your mistakes like you own your successes. Let your shortcomings humble you as your achievements propel you forward.

So many in today’s society are all about trying to “live their best life”. Ladies and gentlemen is impossible to live your best life if you’re living a life without consequences. Good, bad, or indifferent they exist and you must come to terms with that if you ever want to truly find “it”.
